THE GOSPEL OF GOD’S SON
What "Gospel" means – "Good news" or "glad tidings." It is the good news that God saves sinners through His Son Jesus. How the Gospel is described – Among other things, it is called "the gospel of the kingdom" (Matthew 4:23), "the gospel of Christ" (Romans 1:16), "the gospel of God" (1 Thessalonians 2:9), "the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20:24), and "the gospel of (your) salvation" (Ephesians 1:13). What Jesus wants His disciples to do with the Gospel –Tell this wonderful message to all people: "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15). The Gospel’s uniqueness – There is only one. Thus, in the Bible it is called "the" gospel. "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed" (Galatians 1:8). What the Gospel can do – It can save sinners. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek" (Romans 1:16). How God wants man to respond to the gospel – Believe and obey it: ". . . preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved" (Mark 16:15,16). The fate of those that fail to obey the gospel – ". . . the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Thessalonians 1:7,8). Let us continue to stand foursquare on the gospel! --Roger D. Campbell |
